Remeber when Professor Bose (research seminar) told us that whenever he has to review a submitted paper, he will carry it around with him - we did see him alone during lunches with a journal paper in hand, savouring it as though it is the best book ever written - he will read it slowly.
Over and over again.
I snickered back then. How long can one paper take? Maybe maximum of about 3 hours for an extremely long research (not review) paper with tons of breaks in between, if you're as easily distracted like me.
Now I realized what he meant. Once is not enough. Twice is not even enough. While preparing a presentation for a paper, I realized I need to comb through all the fine details, check out the sources cited and get the overall picture across as simply as possible (which is so damn hard!) while trying to find other suggestions.
